Really...

The comment really is just for me, really has it been that long since I have blogged, I feel so bad.

School has started, my little one is now in 4th grade. He loves it, I don't know how we are going to pass because homework means serious business in this class. Wow, he has had so many punches (aka demerits) because we have not signed something or turned it in on time. I guess we will only learn as we go.

My favorite thing overheard at the first day of school after the teacher described Fun Friday's and what fun things they usually do "This is going to be the best year ever!", more power to you teach for getting them to say that.

My other favorite thing so far is a homework assignment that H had, a questionnaire about his name, it goes like this...

Why did your parents choose your name?
It was the only name they could agree on. (this is a very true statement)

If you were named after someone, who was it?
Isaac is my dad's Jewish name. (again true)

What nicknames do you have, and how did you get them?
Hunt from Garrett. (I have never heard him call this and part of the reason why I agreed to Hunter was because you couldn't shorten it)

Do you like your name? Why or why not?
Yes cause it's a good name. (glad he likes his name)

If you could choose another name, would you, and what would it be?
If I got tired of Hunter it would be Officer. (is this because you could choose it as a profession? I love the way his little mind works)

Again I ask, what are they teaching them in school...

Maybe the focus was on Canada was because of the Olympics but really is that a good excuse. On our walk today the boy sang the whole way which really is not bothersome I find it cute, sometimes we make silly songs. On this wonderful walk though today he sang "O Canada", I asked him where he learned that, he said music class. I asked him do you know the "Star-Spangled Banner", I was then told he doesn't he was only told to sing it once but obviously they worked very hard for Canada.

I say if we are going to share in some of the spoils of Canada, they should be teaching them the right country's national anthem.

Maybe next year?

School Days

Can I just say how much my son just loves his teacher this year? Granted he is only in second grade, but considering the teachers he has had in the past I am so glad he finally found one that has him motivated about school.

I have never seen H be so excited about reading. Mrs. W has lit a fire under him and he is ready to roll. I wouldn't say he didn't read or struggled with reading before however this year he has grabbed chapter books from the library and was so excited that he could get to chapter 5 in one day. He took it upon himself to read at daycare too. In the past I had to force him to read. I am glad for Mrs. W, she has touched him in a way that no one else can. At his school function when we were learning about the new reading program I had a moment to talk to her, I had tears in my eye telling her how much he has enjoyed school so far. That was only two weeks in. This year he has not asked me once to drop him off or pick him up at school. I didn't put the two together until recently talking to some co-workers.

I am excited to see how this year plays out with him, maybe instead of me worrying if he will pass there may not be as big of a worry for me this year. We will find out when the first parent teacher conference comes up as well as his report card.
